Hubert Hurkacz has risen to seventh in the ATP ranking, the highest of his career, despite narrowly losing to new world number one Jannik Sinner (6:7, 6:7) in the final of the Halle Open in Germany.
Hurkacz has made a strong start to the grass court season. In reaching the final of the tournament in Halle, he defeated the much-fancied Alexander Zverev.
In the final, Sinner, Hurkacz’s doubles partner, just had the edge. With no break of serve, the Italian crucially won 85% of his service points compared to 69% for the Pole, according to Infosys ATP Stats.
Hurkacz’s form on grass bodes well for his chances at the pinnacle of the grass court season, Wimbledon, which begins on July 1.

The Polish player's recent form has seen him overtake Casper Ruud and Alex de Minaur. The 21-year-old Sinner, who toppled Novak Djokovic after Roland Garros, remains number one.
