A farmer who lost his cherished Rolex watch after it was eaten by a hungry cow has been reunited with the timepiece over half a century later.

James Steel lost his Rolex Oyster in the early 1970s while tending to one of his fields at his dairy farm in Shropshire, England.

But it wasn’t until he got home that he realized the watch, which cost £100 (the equivalent of an average weekly wage in the 70s), was missing.

Hurrying back to the field, he began a frantic search, but after several hours, was forced to give up.

A vet later told him that the watch had probably been eaten by a grazing cow.

Presuming it was lost forever, Mr. Steel bought a new one, and over time, the Rolex faded from his memory.

Now, he has been reunited with it after metal detectorist Liam King found it on his land.

The delighted farmer said: “The cow could have eaten it with a mouthful of grass, the vet said.

“It was an amazing stroke of luck for it to turn up again after all this time.

“I was quite pleased because I never thought I would see the watch again.

“But I have got it now. I only have half the bracelet—the other half must have disintegrated.”

He added: “The face has gone greenish, but it has not rusted up.”
