The Polish Border Guard is seeking clarification from German authorities regarding recent incidents of migrants being sent back to Poland.

Another incident involving the alleged turning back of a group of migrants from Germany to Poland was reported in the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition that on Saturday, June 15, at the border bridge between Frankfurt/Oder and Słubice, police officers ordered a group of a dozen men and women to swiftly cross the bridge into Poland with their luggage.

The newspaper noted that the reasons behind this action were unclear at the time of publication.

In response to that news, Polish Border Guard spokesman Andrzej Juźwiak informed the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that “Preliminary findings indicate that the incident may have involved a group of Ukrainian citizens who were refused entry by the German police.”

The commander of the Border Guard post in Świecko, central western Poland, has requested an explanation from his German counterpart.

A similar incident occurred on June 14, when a German police van crossed into the Polish border town of Osinów Dolny and left a family of five migrants—two adults and three children—on the Polish side.

In response, Prime Minister Donald Tusk discussed the matter with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Czesław Mroczek explained that Germany had first reimposed random border controls and later mandatory ones due to the Euro 2024 soccer championships, “so the German side had the right to refuse entry to people who, for example, did not have the required documents.”

As a result, many individuals without proper documentation have been denied entry, with several thousand refusals reported.
