A Polish sports safety gear company has stepped in to help the French forward Kylian Mbappe continue playing in Euro 2024 after he suffered a broken nose in France’s match against Austria.

CABIOMEDE Sport, which specializes in making carbon fiber face masks and shinguards, came up with the idea for a custom-made face mask for the 25-year-old after he was reportedly ruled out of France’s next two matches.

Mateusz Pawlik, an engineer with the Kielce-based company, said: “If the French contacted me Mbappe would be playing in a mask on Friday [in France’s match against the Netherlands].

“If he needed such a mask, it would not be a problem to make. We produce masks with various patterns: flowers, flames, hearts. A ninja turtle wouldn't be a problem,” he added in recognition of fans’ referencing Mbappe’s resemblance to the cartoon turtles.

A few hours later, the company presented a prototype of the mask.

Pawlik told the Sportowefakty website: “We use motorsport fiber, the type used in Formula 1 or astronautics.

“Mbappe would have a shell 2 mm from the skin of his nose that could be hit with a hammer and it would not break.”

The French forward has yet to respond to the offer, but if he does he will be in good hands as the company serves all professional leagues in Poland as well as clients abroad.
