Aerial reconnaissance over eastern Donetsk has uncovered an armored vehicle with a Ukrainian soldier’s headless body on the hood and his severed head inside.
Kyiv has accused Russian forces, under Vladimir Putin’s command, of beheading the soldier, whose head was discovered in the damaged vehicle. Experts believe this was a deliberate act by Russian troops on the front lines.
An image of the scene, featuring the soldier’s body on the hood of an armored vehicle used for soldier transport, was shared by Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
In response, Ukraine has launched an investigation, saying that “this terrible barbarism must have no place in the 21st century.”
“This is yet another proof that the war crimes committed by the aggressor are not isolated incidents but a planned strategy of the Russian regime. These criminal orders were given at the command level of the battalion and company of the occupation forces.”
“We will not let these crimes go unpunished. I call on the entire civilized world to isolate the terrorist state and bring it to justice,” stated Kostin.
Kostin also revealed that Ukrainian military intelligence suggests Russian commanders have instructed their troops to kill Ukrainian prisoners with extreme brutality instead of capturing them.
On April 9, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported 27 criminal cases related to the executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Investigations are ongoing into the alleged murders of 54 Ukrainian soldiers by Russian forces.
In March 2023, the UN Monitoring Mission in Ukraine released a report documenting the execution of 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian forces and the Wagner Group during the first year of the full-scale invasion.

Such actions violate the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of prisoners of war and the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions on protecting victims of international armed conflicts, the Prosecutor General emphasized.New horrifying evidence of Russia's criminal policy aimed at the extermination of Ukrainians: we have received information that Russian commanders have ordered not to take Ukrainian soldiers as prisoners but to kill them with inhumane cruelty—by decapitation.
