Poland’s Justyna Iskrzycka won gold in the K1 1,000m event at the ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Iskrzycka, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, finished a comfortable 1.2 seconds ahead of second-place Ester Rendessy.

At the Olympics, however, Iskrzycka will face a challenge to adapt her style, given that ladies in the K-1 only race over a 500m distance.

The ECA Canoe Sprint European Championships, which began on Thursday, are part of the preparation for the Olympic Games in Paris for several canoeists.

Iskrzycka, from Silesia in southern Poland, now has four European championship medals, three world championships and a bronze in K-4 at the Tokyo Olympics.

Poland looks well positioned for canoeing medals at this summer’s Paris Olympics, with pairs Martyna Klatt and Helena Wiśniewska plus Karolina Naja (two-time Olympic medalist) and Anna Puławska having a realistic chance of glory in the K2 500m.
