Poland scoops six medals at European Athletics Championships in Rome

The Polish athletics team came home with six medals from the European Athletics Championships in Rome, which were dominated by the Italian team.

The hosts scooped a total of 24 medals, including 11 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze.

Poland, in turn, took a total of six medals at the 2024 Championships.

Natalia Kaczmarek won gold in the 400m with a phenomenal time of 48.98 seconds, smashing Irena Szewińska’s national record, while gold also went to Wojciech Nowicki in the hammer throw.

Ewa Swoboda earned silver in the 100m sprint, and Anita Włodarczyk added to her impressive medal collection with a silver in the hammer throw.

Pia Skrzyszowska claimed bronze in the 100m hurdles, as did Michał Haratyk, who also took bronze in the shot put.

The previous European Athletics Championships in 2022 were held in Munich, where the hosts, Germany, topped the medal table with 7 golds, 7 silvers, and 2 bronzes. This year, the Italian team delighted their home crowd by dominating the medal standings, while Poland’s athletes delivered impressive performances to finish ninth in the overall ranking.
