Polish Ammunition, a public-private defense consortium, has committed to supplying its first entirely Polish-made 155mm artillery shells to the military by 2028, according to a recent newspaper report.

In March 2023, the Polish government approved the National Ammunition Reserve (NRA) program, under which it signed an 11 billion złoty (€2.54 billion) contract in December 2023 with the state-owned Polish Armaments Group for nearly 300,000 155mm artillery shells.

“We are determined to establish a new ammunition factory in Lower Silesia. The goal of the NRA was also to develop production capabilities in Poland,” said Paweł Poncyliusz, head of Polish Ammunition.

He emphasized the importance of this initiative in light of Russia’s expanding military potential.

“We are starting the production processes for modules in Poland this year. In the following years, the shells will become increasingly localized. A completely Polish product, without any licensing limitations, will be delivered in 2028,” Poncyliusz stated.

He expects that by 2028, Poland will have the capacity to produce over 100,000 units of 155mm ammunition annually.

Polish Ammunition will manufacture 155mm artillery shells. The Industrial Development Agency holds a majority stake in the consortium, while minority shares are indirectly held by WB Group (the largest private defense company in Poland) and Ponar Wadowice, the newspaper reported.
