Wojciech Nowicki won a gold medal in the hammer throw, and Ewa Swoboda scooped a silver in the 100-meter race on the third day of the European Athletics Championships in Rome.

Nowicki started the competition with a throw of 78.61m. In the second series, the Olympic champion from Tokyo improved to 80.14m. In the last throw, he sent the hammer to 80.95m and secured the victory.

He became the European champion for the third time in a row. He also triumphed in Munich two years ago and Berlin in 2018.

“I’m glad I mobilized myself and now fought in the last round,” said the athlete.

In the 100-meter race, Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda only lost to British Dina Asher-Smith and was four thousandths of a second better than Italian representative Zaynab Dosso.

Asher-Smith won with a time of 10.99, repeating her success from the European Championships in Berlin in 2018. Swoboda and Dosso achieved a result of 11.03. Just off the podium was Patrizia van der Weken from Luxembourg (11.04). The defending champion, German Gina Lückenkemper (11.07), was in fifth place.

“It was a long and difficult day, and I am very happy that I finally have a medal for 100 meters from the stadium,” Swoboda said.
