Iga Świątek waltzed into the semi-final of the French Open following an emphatic straight sets win over the fifth seed, Marketa Vondrousova.
Turning 23 late last week, the Pole continued her rich vein of form, dispatching Vondrousova 6:0, 6:2.
Aiming to win the Roland Garros tournament for a third consecutive time, Świątek looked imperious as she cruised past the reigning Wimbledon champion.
Having first won the French Open in 2020, Świątek’s love affair with the tournament shows little sign of abating. Snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, her epic second round comeback this year against Naomi Osaka has already been described as a modern day classic.
Since that scare, Raszyń-born Świątek has looked in a different league. A comfortable third-round triumph over Marie Bouzkova was followed by a fourth-round demolition of Anastasia Potapova.
The World No. 1 will now face Coco Gauff in Thursday’s semi-final.
