The Polish Foreign Ministry confirmed the deaths of two Polish citizens among four hostages recently killed by Hamas.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced the deaths on Monday.

The Ministry expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the grieving families via a post on Platform X.

“Poland reiterates its call for a ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate release of hostages,” the ministry said. “The two persons we are talking about had their Polish citizenship authenticated,” Pawel Wroński, the ministry's spokesman told the Polish Press Agency (PAP), adding that Poland's administration had authenticated their citizenship last November or December when they had already been abducted.

“I do not know if they were aware of the fact that they were Polish citizens, probably not,” Wroński said and added that, in this situation, they had de facto been Israeli citizens, whom Poland had been trying to help regain their freedom. He added that, in light of this, the Polish foreign ministry would not be releasing the two deceased individuals’ data and all information at its disposal had come from the Israeli side.

The Times of Israel identified the deceased as 79-year-old Chaim Peri, 84-year-old Amiram Cooper, 80-year-old Yoram Metzger, and 51-year-old Nadav Popplewell. The circumstances of their deaths are being investigated. The Embassy of Israel in Poland reported that of the four, Amiram Cooper and Chaim Peri held Polish citizenship.

The IDF has not disclosed the circumstances of their death due to an ongoing investigation.

To date, the IDF has confirmed the deaths of 41 hostages out of the 120 who were not released by Hamas.
