Iga Świątek’s leading adversary, world number two Aryna Sabalenka, said she was taken aback by the Pole’s remarkably dominant fourth-round performance at Roland Garros.

Świątek defeated Anastasija Potapova 6:0, 6:0, in just 40 minutes to advance to the quarterfinals, which left Belarusian Sabalenka shocked.

“I watched this match and thought to myself, “wow!”. This is another high-intensity match, and I felt very sorry for Anastasia because Iga was simply too strong,” she said.

After a one-sided fourth-round contest with Emma Navarro, Sabalenka also secured her place in the quarterfinals of the Paris event. Due to the layout of the draw, the world number two can only meet the Polish player in the final.

“I refrained from thinking that I could try to do something similar, because you can go crazy thinking that,” Sabalenka said at a press conference. I thought to myself, “No, Aryna, focus on yourself. You don't have to do a better job than her. All these bagels are her world.” That's how it is with Iga. You have to leave it to her. I will be better for my rivals,” she added. Świątek will face Wimbledon winner Markéta Vondroušová in the quarterfinals. The match is scheduled to begin on Tuesday after 12:30 p.m. (CET).
