The National Festival of Polish Song in Opole began on Friday for the 61st time, attracting thousands of music fans nationwide.
The Opole Festival is an event with rich traditions, dating back to 1963, and over the years has become a place of debuts and triumphs of the greatest Polish artists, such as Czesław Niemen and Maryla Rodowicz.
The festival not only promotes Polish music but also aspires to become part of the world’s cultural heritage, as evidenced by its application to be included on UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage.
The 61st installment of the festival will begin traditionally with two concerts featuring premieres and artistic debuts.
The festival’s first day will conclude with the “Debutes – Niemen Symphonically” concert, during which ten artists will present hits from Czesław Niemen’s repertoire, marking the 20th anniversary of Niemen's death and the 85th anniversary of his birth.
The event will last three days, concluding on June 2.
