The European Commission has approved a Polish government scheme worth 2.1 billion złoty (€486 million) to support the country’s cereal producers affected by the war in Ukraine.

Janusz Wojciechowski, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture, announced the approval on the X platform on Monday.

“Further state aid for Polish farmers, in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, has been approved in the amount of €486 million.”

This marks the 17th instance of the Polish government assisting its farmers. This round of aid targets producers of wheat, rye, barley, triticale, and cereal mixtures who have experienced losses and face liquidity issues due to market instability.

Each beneficiary will receive up to €280,000, with funds to be distributed by the end of December 2024.

Agriculture was included in the EU’s State Aid Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework at Wojciechowski’s request in March 2022, shortly after the war in Ukraine began. The program has been extended until the end of this year.
