Polish president congratulates Lithuanian counterpart on re-election

Polish President Andrzej Duda has congratulated his Lithuanian counterpart, Gitanas Nauseda, on his re-election as the head of state.

Nauseda secured his second term of presidency in the second round of the ballot on Sunday, winning about 80 percent of the vote, initial results show.

His rival, Ingrida Simonyte, the prime minister, garnered about 20 percent.

“I congratulate my friend Gitanas Nauseda on winning the presidential election of the Republic of Lithuania!” Duda wrote in Lithuanian on the X platform on Sunday night.

“I'm pleased that we'll be able to continue our excellent cooperation.” The first round of the presidential election in Lithuania was held on May 12. At that time, Nauseda won 43.95 percent of the vote and Simonyte 20.05 percent.
