President Zelenskyy thanked Sweden for its “long-term support for Ukraine” after the country announced its special military support budget for Ukraine.
The Swedish government will create a special military support budget for Ukraine amounting to a total of 75 billion Swedish krona (approximately €6.4 billion) for the years 2024–2026, so that “this country can long-term repel Russian aggression.”
“It is really tangible, and it will strengthen not only us, not only Ukraine, but entire European perimeter from Baltic to Black Sea,” said President Zelenskyy.
“The total support for Ukraine, both military and civilian, will amount to 100 billion Swedish krona (approximately €8.6 billion),” the statement emphasized.
The three-year financing for Ukraine’s defense is supported by the center-right government of Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and the far-right Sweden Democrats, who ensure his majority in parliament. It was noted that “the budget for Ukraine is not to burden Swedish defense capabilities.”
The decision to provide future support for Ukraine was demanded by the opposition Center Party. Unlike countries such as Denmark, which established a multi-year Ukrainian Fund, Sweden previously did not have a plan for separate expenditures for this purpose.
Centrists believe that the government should increase the value of aid for Ukraine to 1% of GDP. Meanwhile, the opposition Social Democrats have called for the transfer of Swedish Gripen multi-role combat aircraft to Ukraine.

The government office in Stockholm published a statement on Wednesday, allocating 25 billion Swedish krona (approximately €2.15 billion) annually in the coming years for donations, the purchase of defense equipment, and “financial contributions.”I appreciate Sweden’s long-term support for Ukraine, which will strengthen everyone—not just Ukraine but Europe’s entire perimeter from the Baltics to the Black Sea and every region where Russian madmen may attempt to revise land or sea borders.
