Four new ministers have been appointed on Monday as part of the government reshuffle in Poland.

The outgoing ministers (Marcin Kierwiński, Borys Budka, Krzysztof Hetman and Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz) were in office for less than six months following the swearing-in of Donald Tusk’s government last December. All will run in the European elections to be held on June 9.

Replacing four outgoing ministers who will now run for European Parliament, the new appointments number Tomasz Siemoniak as Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Jakub Jaworowski as the Minister of State Assets, Krzysztof Paszyk as the Minister for Development and Technology, and Hanna Wroblewska as the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

Speaking at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Andrzej Duda admitted that the reshuffle was taking place at “a difficult time” in Polish history, noting Russia’s wanton imperialism, the war in Ukraine, and the refugee crisis on the border with Belarus.

Continuing, he added that the impacted ministries all played a crucial role in the country’s national security and that he had earlier met with Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss state matters.
Of the new appointments, Siemoniak has previously served as the Minister of National Defense as well as Deputy Prime Minister in the coalition government that ruled between 2011 and 2015. Jaworowski, an economist by profession, acted as Secretary of State between 2012 and 2015. Paszyk is best-known as a local and parliamentary politician whilst Wroblewska - an art historian and curator - is recognized for her previous role as the director of the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw.
