Germany would acquire three HIMARS units for Ukraine from the United States, the country’s Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced on Thursday during a visit to Washington.
He emphasized Ukraine’s significant needs on the front lines and Germany’s commitment to expediting the delivery of essential weapons.
“I can confirm that, in cooperation with the Americans, we will transfer three HIMARS systems to Ukraine,” Pistorius said.
“The needs of Ukraine on the front lines are immense, and Germany is accelerating the delivery of weapons,” he emphasized, explaining that these are MLRS systems from the U.S. Army’s reserves, which Germany will pay for.
So far, the U.S. has provided Ukraine with nearly 40 HIMARS launchers. These systems played a crucial role in enabling Ukrainian forces to target Russian positions beyond the front lines, temporarily shifting the balance of power on the battlefield.
