In Brussels on Monday, the EU-Ukraine Defense Industries Forum convened, seeking to bolster defense cooperation with concrete initiatives and sustained military support for Kyiv, including long-term assistance.

“Today’s forum is a crucial step in enhancing cooperation between the Ukrainian and EU defense industries. This is essential not only for our current needs but also for our future requirements. I am confident that this will bring our defense industries closer, allow us to learn from each other, and help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. This could be groundbreaking in the longer term,” stated EU Foreign Affairs Chief Josep Borrell.

A remote participant, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, emphasized the necessity of gearing Europe’s economy towards a wartime footing to uphold peace.

Kuleba stressed that deterring Russia’s aggression requires showcasing Europe’s defense capabilities, underscoring the importance of a joint defense industrial space to surmount current challenges.

He highlighted the imperative of collective effort, asserting that no single nation can safeguard Ukraine or Europe alone.

Attended by approximately 400 representatives from governments, EU and Ukrainian defense industries, industry associations, and EU institutions, the forum aims to facilitate partnerships between potential collaborators from EU member states and Ukraine.

These partnerships are envisioned to undertake joint defense projects, further enhancing military collaboration between the EU and Ukraine.
