Third consecutive missile attack on Odesa’s postal depot, 14 injured

A Russian ballistic missile hit a postal depot in the Ukrainian port of Odesa late on Wednesday, injuring 14 people and igniting a large fire, according to Regional Governor Oleh Kiper.

This marked the third missile attack on the city in as many days.

Kiper, writing on the Telegram messaging app, said that one of the injured required hospital treatment.

Volodymyr Popereshniuk, the head of the Nova Poshta postal and courier company, stated on Facebook that all 18 employees on duty managed to safely reach a bomb shelter before the missile struck a loading section of the depot.

Images and videos shared online depicted flames and voluminous clouds of smoke engulfing buildings, with firefighters directing their hoses towards areas still on fire. The majority of the loading area seemed to have been reduced to a shell.

An Odesa media outlet posted a video, claiming it captured the moment of impact, with debris scattering within the facility.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm the reports. Russia refutes allegations of targeting civilian locations.

Odesa has been a recurring target of Russian attacks, with missiles striking locations in the city over the previous two days, resulting in eight fatalities.

Numerous attacks since Russia initiated its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 have specifically targeted the city’s port infrastructure.
