A Polish military transport has arrived in Jordan filled with 711 parachutes earmarked for humanitarian airdrops to be made in the Gaza Strip. According to the Ministry of Defense, the delivered cargo has a value of 871,000 zlotys (€201,800).

The parachutes were donated by the Polish Armed Forces and handed over earlier on Monday at a military airfield in Marka close to Amman.

The Ministry of Defense issued a statement underlining its commitment to supporting relief efforts: “Poland appreciates and supports Jordan's attempts to provide humanitarian aid and protect the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. In April this year, the Polish authorities positively considered the Jordanian request to provide parachutes needed to airdrop food, medical supplies and other elements of humanitarian aid to the affected area.” Running parallel to this, the Polish government has also recently donated $2 million (€1,86 million) to UN agencies that include the UNRWA and WFP.

The Ministry of Defense also highlighted its ongoing support of Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

“Poland’s financial contribution is a response to the appeal for USD 760 million that WFP have said is needed to carry out humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip until the end of the year,” it wrote.

According to Palestinian sources, more than 34,000 people have died since Israel launched its offensive against Hamas following the attacks of October 7, 2023. As things stand, more than 2.3 million Palestinians have had to flee their homes.
