Poland’s Iga Świątek overcame Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo 6:1, 6:0, in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 tournament on the courts in Madrid. In the quarterfinals, the Polish tennis player’s rival will be Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia.
Świątek started the match badly and lost her first service game, but she quickly mastered the situation and won the next 12 games. The match lasted one hour and seven minutes.
Last year, the world number one reached the final in the Spanish capital, where she lost to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, currently ranked number two.
Two other Poles: Magda Linette (WTA 48th) and Magdalena Fręch (WTA 51st) were entered in the singles tournament in Madrid. Linette defeated Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (WTA 54th) in the first round and lost to Sabalenka (No. 2) in the second round.
Fręch, on the other hand, succumbed to Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (WTA 73rd) in the first round.
