Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported Sunday that the situation on the front has deteriorated, with Russian troops “actively attacking along the entire front line, achieving tactical successes in some directions.”

The most intense fighting continues towards Kupyansk, in the eastern part of the country, where Russian forces “have achieved partial successes, but have been stopped,” General Syrskyi wrote in Telegram.

In the Donetsk region, Russian forces are launching an offensive in the Kramatorsk direction, to capture the town of Tsavi Yar, but “the most complicated situation” is in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo areas, where “fierce fighting is ongoing,” he added.
The general said that Ukrainian forces have withdrawn to new positions west of the villages of Berdychi,Semenivka, and Novomykhailivka, and “in order to strengthen defense in these sections, units with combat capability are being sent in place of units that suffered losses.”

The armed forces commander also reported a “tense situation” in the south of the country but did not give details.

Since the Russian capture of the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region in February, Ukrainian forces, which are short of men and ammunition, have been slowly pushed westward, AFP reported.

Ukraine is currently awaiting deliveries of U.S. military aid, which experts say is crucial to further deterring the Russian invasion.

The package of measures providing $60.8 billion in support for Ukraine was passed in the U.S. Congress after more than six months of internal wrangling.
