The Solaris Bus & Coach Company, based in Poland, has secured orders for over 350 buses for Rome. This marks one of the largest contracts in the company’s history.
Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z o.o. is one of the leading European manufacturers of urban and suburban buses, with a particular focus on the development of zero-emission vehicles.
On Friday, company spokesman Mateusz Figaszewski announced that Solaris had recently received an order for the delivery of 244 CNG buses. Previously, the company won a tender for the supply of 110 mild hybrid buses.
With the maximum utilization of options by the buyer, the contracts, along with servicing, will reach a value of over 200 million euros.
“In recent months, Solaris presented the most advantageous offer in a tender for the delivery of 110 articulated mild hybrid vehicles. The tender process was conducted by the procurement group Gubielo Spa for the carrier ATAC Roma. Solaris’s offer of Urbino 18 buses equipped with the latest generation mild hybrid systems received the highest rating,” Figaszewski conveyed on Friday.
The spokesperson added that a few days ago, Gubielo Spa and ATAC Roma also placed an order for buses powered by compressed natural gas.
“Here, Solaris’s offer with the twelve-meter version of the Urbino CNG proved to be the most advantageous. As a result, 244 Solaris Urbino 12 CNG buses running on natural gas will also be delivered to the capital of Italy in 2024 and 2025,” the company representative stated.
The order for gas-powered buses includes an option to increase the number of vehicles by an additional 78 units. The buyer may decide on this in the coming months.
In addition to bus deliveries, Solaris will also provide their servicing for the next 10 years. Figaszewski emphasized that this is one of the largest contracts in the company's history. From 2003 to 2004, Solaris supplied the ATAC carrier with 30 trolleybuses. Furthermore, for regional transport in the suburbs of Rome, the Cotral company uses over 700 Solaris InterUrbino intercity vehicles.
