Radosław Sikorski, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ), presented the key points of his report on the objectives of Polish foreign policy for 2024 during a closed meeting of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee on Wednesday. According to Maciej Konieczny, deputy chairman of the committee, following the presentation was a calm and substantive discussion.

On Thursday in the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish Parliament, Sikorski will deliver a speech on the tasks for Polish foreign policy in 2024. According to announcements, he will address issues such as security, the European Union, relations with allies, and also seek debunking several “myths” regarding foreign policy that emerged during the previous government’s tenure.

Konieczny stated, “Minister Sikorski personally presented a summary of what he will present tomorrow; there was a very calm, substantive discussion.”

Konieczny declined to discuss the specifics of Sikorski’s presentation, emphasizing that the committee meeting was closed, and details will be disclosed on Thursday. The committee meeting lasted approximately 1.5 hours.

In the Sejm, a total of 9 hours has been allocated for considering points regarding the MSZ chief’s report - from 9 am to 6 pm; where Sikorski’s speech alone is expected to last over an hour. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the minister will seek to address questions raised during the debate and respond to the majority of issues discussed.

Sikorski’s speech was developed following discussions with experts and representatives of think tanks. It aims to outline the directions of the government’s foreign policy while also addressing the concerns of Poles related to the war in Ukraine and the unstable security situation worldwide.
