Poland has declared its commitment to provide financial aid totaling USD 2 million to two key United Nations humanitarian organizations operating in the Gaza Strip, as disclosed by the Foreign Ministry.

With more than 2 million Palestinian civilians in dire need of humanitarian assistance, the situation has become increasingly urgent. The World Food Programme (WFP) has reported alarming statistics, indicating that nine out of 10 people in northern Gaza are surviving on less than a meal a day.

In response to the escalating crisis, Poland has pledged $1 million each to the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The MFA highlighted the significance of the World Food Programme as a vital partner for Poland in the realm of humanitarian aid. The donation to the WFP is a direct response to the organization’s urgent appeal for $760 million to sustain its humanitarian operations in Gaza until the end of 2024.

Additionally, Poland’s contribution to the UNRWA budget underscores its ongoing commitment to supporting Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, as well as in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

The MFA said that Poland “has been supporting Palestine under the development cooperation program continuously since 2007, and humanitarian aid was considerably increased after October 7, 2023 through additional payments to UNRWA, UNICEF and WFP.”

“In addition, we also provided medical aid for hospitals in Egypt where patients from the Gaza Strip are treated,” the ministry added.

In 2023, the MFA also financed development projects in the Palestinian territories, facilitated by Polish non-governmental organizations, and deployed Polish experts to support the World Health Organization’s mission focusing on medical evacuations and water purification in Gaza.
