Annual Baltic-states-focused military drills to launch in Lithuania on Friday

Saber Strike, a yearly multinational military training held since 2010 by the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) focused on the Baltic States, is expected to kick off in Lithuania on Friday, reports the Lithuanian public broadcaster, LRT.

As many as 600 U.S. soldiers and 120 armored vehicles reassigned from Poland will take part in the exercise, which will also involve elements of the Lithuanian Land Force and the rotational US battalion in Lithuania. They will jointly conduct live fire training,” according to LRT.

Running until April 30, the 2024 edition of the military exercise includes Germany, Poland, and Lithuania, states LRT.

The public broadcaster adds: “The exercise aims to demonstrate the ability to rapidly redeploy elements of the land force to another region, reinforce existing land force units, and achieve a deterrent effect.”

The Lithuanian Armed Forces have been quoted as saying by LRT that “the road military exercises taking place over the next few days will result in a large redeployment of troops and military equipment by road, air, and rail.”
