Situation in Middle East does not pose a direct threat to Poland: PM Tusk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Sunday that the current situation in the Middle East does not directly pose a threat to the country, stressing at the same time that given the security risks the world is facing today, the Polish state and its army must remain strong and well prepared.

“The situation in the Middle East is not a direct threat to Poland at the moment. But the world is standing on the brink. Therefore, the Polish state must be strong, society must be solidary, the army must be well prepared, and the international position must be stable,” the Prime Minister wrote on the social media platform X. He stressed that security remains paramount .
On Saturday night, Iran launched some 300 drone and missile strikes against Israel. The Iranian armed forces described the attack as retaliation for the bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, in which several Iranian officers were killed. Iran has accused Israel of doing the same.

According to the Israeli armed forces, 99% of the drones and missiles were intercepted. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier that his country would respond to a direct attack from Iran with the same.

The EU and Western countries, including Canada, France, Germany, the UK, as well as U.N. Secretary General António Guterres, condemned Iran’s unprecedented attack. The messages pointed out that it could destabilize the entire region.
