Slovakia’s Prime Minister, Robert Fico, hinted at the prospect of seeking reconciliation with Russia post-war during a recent radio interview. Fico expressed concern over Ukraine’s NATO membership potentially triggering a global conflict, emphasizing a desire to pursue a comprehensive foreign policy approach.

“In the aftermath of conflict, there’s a keen interest in re-establishing normalcy in relations with Moscow,” remarked Fico, stressing a commitment to engaging with nations across the globe.

“I want to pursue a policy of good, friendly relations with anyone interested in such a policy,” Fico affirmed, underlining Slovakia’s proximity to Ukraine as a factor in maintaining stable relations with Kyiv.

Fico also indicated his stance against Ukraine’s NATO accession, vowing to lobby against it should he remain in office. “Ukraine’s membership in NATO is only good for World War III. An independent Ukraine is enough for us,” he asserted.

Following discussions with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and his cabinet, After the talks, Fico supported Kyiv’s European ambitions and acknowledged that the Russian invasion violated international law, and he advocated for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. He also argued for the swift end of the war.

Fico’s participation in ‘The Saturday Dialogues,’ a unique media platform, underscores his engagement with the public. However, he remains critical of public television, accusing it of bias and declining invitations to its political programs.
