Damian Soból was one of the purest souls I have ever met: Ben Grant for TVP World

On April 1, Israeli drones targeted a three-car convoy belonging to the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in the Gaza Strip, killing seven aid workers, including a Polish volunteer Damian Soból. To look further into this tragic event, TVP World invited Ben Grant, who leads the food relief group Global Empowerment Mission, and who personally knew each of the victims.

Grant said that he is still in utter shock over the tragic demise of his fellow aid workers.

“Not just myself, but my whole organization is still in a state of shock. We cannot even believe that this has happened. It is a very very difficult time but we will carry on,” he said.

Grant also expressed gratitude to the Polish people, specifically Damian’s family for “giving such a special human being.”

“Damian was one of the purest souls I have ever met… He really was driven to save lives… I had the privilege to work alongside him” he added.

“No matter how many missions Damian would go on, he was always dedicated to give 100%,” Grant further remarked.

Following the attack by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), Grant made the decision to pull out to Cairo. He said he did so, in order that his organization could “reassess everything from the outside.”

“Right now we are just trying to demand a massive increase in security measures that need to be put in place… so that we can have a better sense of security. This cannot happen again,” he stressed.

“We are here to give aid to the people. We are not here to cause anyone problems. We are just trying to dedicate our time and money to get people the aid they desperately need in order to save their lives,” he said.

Grant said that it is vital that aid organizations are assured of all security measures so that they can continue their noble work.
