Marzena Czarnecka, the industry minister, announced on Monday the blocking of coal imports from abroad, following a meeting with representatives of the Solidarity Trade Union’s national coal mining section. The ministry also stated that it is presently working intensively on managing coal surpluses and expects to resolve this issue by next year.
According to the industry ministry, the talks focused primarily on “the day-to-day business of Poland's largest mining companies.”
Czarnecka also announced that “the industry ministry has blocked coal imports from abroad,” and that the ministry is working on “utilizing the surplus coal.”
She added that 2024 will be a very difficult year considering coal management since trade agreements made by the previous management boards of coal companies are still in force, nevertheless, the industry ministry “hopes to have unloaded the problem by 2025.”
