Hubert Hurkacz won his maiden title on clay courts on Sunday as he saw off Pedro Martínez from Spain 6:3, 6:4 in the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril, Portugal.
The Pole was the clear favorite of the match against his Spanish rival, ranked 77th. He won all three of their previous clashes, including one on a clay court, two years ago in Monte Carlo.
From the very beginning, Hurkacz was making the most of his trademark – serving. He managed to break his rival in the fourth game, which allowed him to control the rest of the set and take a 6:3 win.
Already in the first game of the second set, Hurkacz broke Martínez once again, never letting his opponent respond in kind.
