Russian drones kill at least four in Kharkiv: TVP World report

Russian drones struck high-rise apartment buildings and private homes in Kharkiv on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals in Ukraine’s second-largest city, according to officials. Our correspondent Yana Bzot is in Ukraine now and has the latest; watch her report above.

Oleh Syniehubov, the Regional Governor of Kharkiv, confirmed the death toll, which included the deaths of three rescue workers in a subsequent strike at the same location. Additionally, he reported that 12 people sustained injuries, with three in critical condition. The attacks in Kharkiv involved a minimum of 15 drones, as stated by Syniehubov.

Ukraine’s military successfully intercepted 11 Shahed drones out of the 20 launched overnight, according to the General Staff.

The Kharkiv prosecutor’s office revealed that residential buildings, shops, a medical facility, and vehicles were among the targets damaged in the assault. Drones also targeted the Zmiivska thermal power plant in the region, adding pressure to an energy infrastructure already under strain from previous Russian air strikes.

Images from Kharkiv depicted fire trucks with extended ladders operating under floodlights, reaching up to the damaged apartments in high-rise buildings.

Reports from Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne detailed significant damage to apartments spanning three floors of a 14-story building. Emergency responders faced difficulties in their efforts due to fears of further strikes, delaying their work by at least an hour.

In addition to Kharkiv, drones struck an educational facility, a cultural center, and a private residence in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, according to the governor of the region.

Russia maintains its denial of intentionally targeting civilians in the ongoing conflict, which has persisted for over two years.

Kharkiv has been a frequent target of Russian drone and missile attacks, with recent incidents including an aerial bomb strike that resulted in one fatality and a missile attack in an industrial area that killed five individuals last month.
