Poland’s coach Michał Probierz, in his first major decision regarding the Euro 2024, has chosen the Sheraton Pelikan in Hanover as the base for the team. The Polish players will train at the facilities of Hannover 96, a club currently holding the 5th spot in the 2. Bundesliga.
Amid initial speculations that had the squad deciding between Potsdam and Bremen, the selection of Hanover came as a surprise.
A delegation from the Polish Football Association, led by Probierz, made the trip to Germany after Easter to assess two previously shortlisted sites, ultimately settling on Hanover, which hadn't been widely discussed as a potential base.
Hanover holds fond memories for Polish fans, being the site of Poland’s sole victory in the 2006 World Cup–a 2:1 win against Costa Rica.
Located in Lower Saxony, Hanover is strategically situated in the middle of the triangle formed by Hamburg, Berlin, and Dortmund–the cities where Poland will play their group stage matches at Euro 2024.
Poland’s Group D fixtures:
Poland vs the Netherlands on June 16 at 15:00 in Hamburg
Poland vs Austria on June 21 at 18:00 in Berlin
Poland vs France on June 25 at 18:00 in Dortmund.
