Poland to investigate death of citizen in Gaza, says official

There will be an investigation into the death of a Pole who was killed in an Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip, Deputy Justice Minister Arkadiusz Myrcha announced on Tuesday.

“This case is no exception; of course every death must be explained, and here such proceedings should be initiated,” Myrcha told state broadcaster TVP Info.

Seven employees of the humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen (WCK), including one from Poland, were killed in an Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip. The organization has suspended its activities in the region, said WCK, which is based in the U.S. The Foreign Ministry is urgently verifying reports of the death of a Polish volunteer in Gaza. “We have asked the Israeli embassy and armed forces for clarification,” MFA spokesman Pawel Wronski told the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
A video released online shows paramedics transporting the bodies to the hospital and the passports of three of those killed. Among them is a Polish passport.

Another video shows the bodies of five of the dead lying in Al-Aqsa Hospital in the town of Dajr al-Balah, in the center of the Gaza Strip. They are wearing protective clothing with the logo of a charity organization.

Founded in 2010 by renowned American chef Jose Andres, World Central Kitchen provides food aid and prepares meals for those in need. The organization reported last month that it had served more than 42 million meals in the Gaza Strip in 175 days.

Palestinian health officials said a separate Israeli air strike on a house killed six people in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians were sheltering.

As of April 1, at least 32,845 Palestinians, including over 13,000 children, have been killed in Gaza since October 7, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
