The Internal Security Agency (ABW) conducted searches as part of an investigation into espionage activities on behalf of the Russian Federation, announced Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister’s Coordinator of Special Services, on Thursday.

Allegedly, the espionage activities targeted European Union member states and their institutions. During the ABW operation, EUR 48,500 and USD 36,000 were seized, Dobrzyński stated. He emphasized that in addition to the searches, initial interrogations in the case were conducted, and further procedural actions will continue in the coming days.

The Press Office of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office informed that the ABW’s actions, conducted at the prosecutor’s request, were part of an investigation into organizing operations to influence EU countries and institutions, which took place on Wednesday, March 27.

Dobrzyński pointed out that these actions resulted from international cooperation between the ABW and several European services, particularly those coordinated with partners from the Czech Republic.

“As a result, actions aimed at organizing pro-Russian initiatives and media campaigns in EU countries were documented. The goal was to implement the Kremlin’s foreign policy objectives, including weakening Poland’s position on the international stage, discrediting Ukraine, and the European Union’s image,” he explained.

In pursuit of these goals, an international website, voice-of-europe.eu, was launched, where articles, statements, comments, and interviews with a biased, pro-Russian tone related to the current international situation, including Russia’s war against Ukraine, are published, Dobrzyński conveyed.
In addition to the aforementioned funds, the services identified the method of financing the described procedure and seized several electronic devices, including mobile phones.

The National Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Press Office stated that ABW’s actions are related to a completed investigation by the Mazovian Department, in which on January 19, the prosecutor brought charges against a Polish citizen for espionage on behalf of Russian special services.

“The accused operated in the environment of Polish and European parliamentarians, carrying out tasks financed by designated Russian intelligence operatives, including propaganda activities, disinformation, political provocations, or the establishment of Russian spheres of influence,” the body recalled.
