Poland, Latvia among leaders in aid for Ukraine: FM Sikorski in Riga

Poland and Latvia are among the leaders in aid for Ukraine, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said during a joint press conference with his Latvian counterpart Krišjānis Kariņš in Riga on Wednesday.

Both officials discussed Support for Ukraine and its aspirations for the EU and NATO, hybrid threats at the borders, and further sanctions against Russia and Belarus. “Poland is increasing military expenses, and we also support Ukraine,” Sikorski said, stressing that both Poland and Latvia are “among leaders of the support for Ukraine” and keep considering how to rebuild the country in the future.
However, “the best solution would be to prevent the destruction of the country through the enhancement of air defense deliveries,” he pointed out.

Sikorski, currently on a day-long visit to Latvia’s capital, is also scheduled to meet President Edgars Rinkēvičs later in the day.

In turn, the Latvian FM stated that “Poland and Latvia have a common understanding of the geopolitical situation which unites us. The main topic and the main attention is paid towards the brutal Russian war on Ukraine, which is entering its third year.”

He added that “both countries have been united even before this open war began; we provide weapons to Ukraine… money, humanitarian aid, any type of support to Ukraine, and we will continue to do so.”

“Europe’s security is dependent on this,” he emphasized.
