Lauri Hussar, the speaker of Estonia’s Parliament, the Riigikogu, paid a visit to Kyiv on Tuesday, where he had a meeting with Ruslan Stefanchuk, his Ukrainian counterpart.

Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to Hussar for Estonia’s recently announced 18th aid package for Ukraine, valued at EUR 20 million (USD 22 mln).

Hussar and Stefanchuk also engaged in discussions regarding sanctions, Ukraine’s integration with the European Union, and NATO.

Stefanchuk emphasized that Ukraine “depends on Estonia’s leadership in achieving ambitious results at the next NATO Summit in Washington.”

Stefanchuk conveyed his thanks to Estonia for its “active stance in addressing Russia’s accountability for war crimes.” On March 25, during his visit to Poland, Hussar raised this issue with his Polish counterpart, Szymon Hołownia.

“The perpetrators of the crime of aggression must face an international special tribunal, and Russia’s frozen assets must be utilized to compensate for the war damages in Ukraine,” stated Hussar in Warsaw. According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, Estonia stands out as one of the primary military donors to Ukraine in terms of gross domestic product (GDP). Over the next four years, Tallinn plans to allocate 0.25% of its GDP to military assistance for Kyiv.
