Belarusians across the globe have begun celebrating Freedom Day to hail the declaration of independence by the Belarusian People’s Republic in 1918, following 150 years of Russian occupation.
Freedom Day, which highlights the democratic legacy of the first independent Belarusian state, is commemorated each year on March 25.
On Sunday, the celebrations in Warsaw included a demonstration featuring mostly Belarusians, Poles, and Ukrainians, during which the participants marched toward the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus, symbolizing unity and the shared pursuit of freedom.
