Leszek Długosz, a poet, actor, songwriter, composer, pianist, and recipient of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest decoration, passed away at the age of 82 after a battle with cancer.

Długosz, born in 1941 in Zaklików, significantly impacted the Polish cultural scene, notably as a part of the legendary “Piwnica Pod Baranami” (Cellar under the Rams) comedy troop in Kraków from 1965 to 1978.

His literary work, starting with the publication of “Eurhythmics Lessons” (Lekcje Rytmiki) in 1973, includes several volumes of poetry that reflect a keen observation of life and a deep understanding of human emotions.

Długosz’s artistic journey took him beyond the borders of Poland, with a scholarship in France leading to an album entirely in French, among other international performances.

Długosz also engaged in public discourse, contributing columns to newspapers and hosting a TV series dedicated to poetry.

He also shared his knowledge and passion for literature at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow as a lecturer. His achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Silver Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis.

Długosz leaves behind a rich tapestry of works that will continue to inspire and move audiences from Poland and beyond.
