On Tuesday, marking the 25th anniversary of Poland accession to NATO, U.S. Ambassador to the country Mark Brzezinski told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that 25 years ago, the Alliance bet on Poland, assuming that Warsaw would contribute to collective protection, and was disappointed. As he underlined, Poland plays a fundamental role in NATO now.
He stressed the importance of the relationship between the Polish and American troops. “At the moment, 10,000 American soldiers are deployed all over Poland, training, exercising with the Polish Army, and using the most technologically advanced equipment. Abrams tanks, F-16 fighters, HIMARS—this is military equipment that is very important for the defense of Poland and the Alliance,” he assessed.
He also assured that “Poland is safe and secure” by being in NATO.
No additional U.S. troops in Poland
“There’s no need for more [U.S.] troops at the Polish border,” President Joe Biden said on Monday, referring to a question posed by reporters at Andrews Air Force Base on Monday about whether he would support an increase in the number of U.S. troops on the Polish border.

The comment came ahead of a visit by Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donal Tusk to Washington to commemorate the NATO accession anniversary.🛡️ 20,000 troops from 9 Allies are exercising together in 🇵🇱 Poland, showing NATO is ready and able to protect our people and defend every inch of Allied territory.
