Linda Noskova, the world’s number 26, will be Iga Świątek’s opponent in the third round of the WTA 1000-ranked tournament in California’s Indian Wells. The Czech tennis player defeated Italian Camila Giorgi 6:3, 7:5 on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Iga Świątek won against American Danielle Collins 6:3, 6:0. Świątek has already played against Collins eight times (she has seven wins), and previously in the second round of this year's Australian Open.
Both ladies met for the first time last year in the quarterfinals of a WTA event in Warsaw, Poland, where the Polish super athlete won smoothly in two sets.
Other Polish representatives in Indian Wells: Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette, lost their first round matches.
Iga can feel a déjà vu, since in January, in the Australian Open, after a second-round win against Collins, she faced... Noskova. The 19-year-old Czech made a huge upset and knocked Świątek out in three sets, later reaching her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal. All business 🧢
