Poland’s Finance Minister, Andrzej Domański, recently discussed investments and strategic cooperation with U.S. Ambassador Mark Brzezinski, highlighting the growing economic ties between both countries. Domański emphasized the significance of these discussions, reflecting on the robust U.S. investments in Poland. These investments play a crucial role in various sectors, including business services, IT, logistics, and energy.

U.S. investments in Poland are valued at approximately USD 26 billion, account for 12% of all foreign investment, and American companies are the second, after German ones, largest group of foreign investors in the country, according to the Warsaw-based American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham).

Nuclear energy cooperation

One of the spotlight projects in this bilateral cooperation is the construction of Poland’s inaugural nuclear power plant, a venture with the Westinghouse-Bechtel consortium, highlighting the investment in sustainable and innovative energy solutions.

The power plant is to be built using Westinghouse’s AP1000 technology and consist of three units. According to the current schedule, construction will begin in 2026, and the first unit, with a gross electrical output of 1,250 MW, will be commissioned in 2033.

This initiative not only marks a milestone in Poland’s energy infrastructure but also demonstrates the depth of U.S.-Polish technological and economic collaboration.

Defense contracts

Moreover, Poland’s engagement with the U.S. in defense through the procurement of the IBCS system—a cutting-edge air and missile defense technology—reinforces the strategic and defense partnership between the two nations.

This is part of a broader cooperation that includes significant defense contracts and offset agreements, enhancing Poland’s military capabilities and technological self-reliance.

Upcoming U.S. visit

The upcoming discussions in Washington between Polish leaders and President Joe Biden, commemorating Poland’s 25 years in NATO, are set to further these themes.

The politicians are to address NATO’s current status, potential expansion, and the continuous strengthening of Polish-American relations across various sectors, showcasing a partnership that extends beyond mere financial investments to encompass shared strategic and defense interests.
