Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson submitted the NATO accession documents to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the State Department on Thursday. With this, Sweden officially became the 32nd member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Thank you very much. We are very grateful for the United States’ support for Sweden’s accession,” Kristersson said at the ceremony.
“Welcome,” Blinken replied.
The process of submitting the documents to the State Department, which is the depositary of the Washington Treaty, formally completes Sweden’s accession to the Alliance.
