A visit to the U.S. by Poland's president is not merely symbolic but is also crucial for enhancing the country's security, Piotr Ćwik, a senior presidential aide, said on Thursday.

“The visit is very symbolic, but also has a very important dimension for us when it comes to building our security,” he told Krakow Radio.
“The Americans are real and important allies to us. Poland sees its security through the prism of the presence of American forces in Europe,” he continued, adding that the issue would be raised in talks between the Polish and US presidents.

“When meeting President Biden, President Duda always raises issues connected with the war in Ukraine through the prism of Poland's security. What we are doing today in terms of aiding Ukraine cannot be seen in any other way.”

Ćwik went on to say that “the world is helping Ukraine in the knowledge that Ukraine losing will cause an escalation of further conflicts created by Russia.”

Prior to the visit, the official added, a meeting will be held on Monday of the National Security Council to group all political formations with seats in parliament.

He said it was important for Duda to leave for the states with a clear cross-party mandate, signaling that “when it comes to the future, the security of Poland, we speak with a single voice, above [political] divisions.”
