Aleksander Zniszczoł finished third in the ski jumping World Cup contest in Lahti. The Sunday event was won by the Austrian Jan Hoerl.
Despite Zniszczoł recording the longest attempt in the first round (128,5 meters) it was Jan Hoerl (124 m) who was leading halfway through, narrowly beating the Pole by 1.5 points. However, the differences among the top jumpers were marginal. Eighth-placed Andreas Wellinger trailed Zniszczoł by only 2.3 points.
Ski jumping fans witnessed even better competition in the second round. Fettner (134 m) and Ryoyu Kobayashi (134 m) flew splendidly and managed to get into the top 10 of the event. Zniszczoł kept his cool and after an even longer second jump (129,5 meters) ultimately secured third place.
While Hoerl emerged victorious for the second time in the ongoing campaign, the veteran Peter Prevc, who announced his retirement from ski jumping after the season’s end, claimed second place.
Zniszczoł, who will celebrate his 30th birthday on March 8, scooped his first podium in the long, yet not so successful career. Nevertheless, this is his best season so far, and, what is more, he has been the leader of the underperforming Polish team.
