The Polish Defense Ministry, the Armaments Agency, and a Polish producer of special purpose vehicles have signed a deal for the purchase of light armored reconnaissance transporters for the Polish Armed Forces.
The deal, which involves a 4x4 vehicle known as the Kleszcz (Tick) designed for a five-member team, is intended for reconnaissance and data transmission purposes, vital for commanders.
In addition, the Kleszcz vehicle has the capability to provide fire support.
“The 'eyes and ears' of the Polish Armed Forces will be produced here, in the city of Kutno, central Poland,” Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz remarked after finalizing the framework agreement.
"We're aiming to secure 286 units," said Kosiniak-Kamysz, expressing satisfaction with the vehicles produced by AMZ-Kutno, a fully Polish-owned enterprise.
"This reaffirms the value of investing in the Polish defense industry. The light-armored vehicle is urgently required by the Polish Armed Forces, particularly underscored by the conflict in Ukraine," the Defense Minister added.
AMZ-KUTNO SA, established in 1999, is a manufacturer of special-purpose and utility vehicles.
The Kleszcz contract is just one in a list of many of Poland's burgeoning acquisitions of military equipment.
The country recently acquired Apache helicopters, missile launchers for the Polish Navy, and components for medium-range anti-aircraft and anti-missile systems. Orders have also been placed for South Korean K2 Black Panther tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, and FA-50 combat trainer aircraft.
