Poland constitutes a political, economic, and cultural focal point in the heart of Europe, assessed Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre in an article published on Wednesday in “Rzeczpospolita” in connection with his visit to Poland.

“In Norway, we have been closely following the magnificent economic growth and development of Poland,” he added, emphasizing that the country has become one of Norway’s most important cooperation partners.

“We have a solid foundation to build upon,” he pointed out, mentioning, among other things, that Poland is an important trade partner and the largest market for Norwegian seafood exports.

“The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline was opened in 2022 and provides direct deliveries of Norwegian gas to Poland, contributing to increased energy security in Europe,” he added.

“We are now jointly writing new chapters in the field of energy,” Støre stressed.

“At the top of the agenda of my meeting with Mr. Tusk is the topic of the war in Ukraine. Poland has largely been and remains the engine, perhaps the most important one, of European support for Ukraine. Poland knows what it is like to be the target of an invasion and to turn into a battlefield. The warmth and solidarity shown by Polish society after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have set an example for the rest of Europe,” the Norwegian official emphasized.

He also stressed that for the past 20 years, his country and Poland have been conducting extensive cooperation under the Norwegian and EEA funds to address social and economic disparities in Europe.

“Norway is currently the largest donor for climate, research, innovation, culture, civil society, and many other projects, and this cooperation is by far the most significant with Poland. Never before have such actions been so important,” noted the head of the Norwegian government.

According to him, few European elections have been followed with greater international interest than the October elections in Poland.

“That is why stronger cooperation with Poland now gives an important expression to the fact that we share these values and stand together for them: support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence and support for democracy and international cooperation,” he wrote.

According to him, this marks a new level of cooperation between Norway and Poland.
