Poland is decades ahead of Sweden in the fight against organized crime, according to Swedish Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer, who paid a visit to Warsaw on Monday.

“Poland in the 1990s was one of the most dangerous countries in Europe, yet it managed to break the negative trend and is currently one of the safest countries in Europe,” he emphasized in a statement to the Swedish agency TT.

According to the politician who fights against drug gangs in Sweden, Poland has managed to defeat organized crime through offensive tools. “Poland uses anonymous witnesses and crown witnesses, which allows reaching the top of gang structures resembling a pyramid,” Strömmer noted.

The authorities in Sweden want to introduce such legal possibilities into their legislation.

On Monday in Warsaw, Strömmer met with his Polish counterpart, Adam Bodnar; he accompanied Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Warsaw.
