Donald Tusk, the Polish prime minister, assured his Swedish counterpart on Monday that Sweden could count on the support of Poland in the matter of its accession to NATO.

Tusk, after a press conference that followed Monday’s meeting in Warsaw between the two heads of government, told Ulf Kristersson “I am at your disposal when it comes to taking action to complete this process as quickly as possible,” and added that Sweden could count on his country’s support in Sweden’s bid for NATO accession.

“It would be an unforgivable mistake to have one NATO country block the presence of another country that is ready to actively work for our common security,” he continued, making a reference to Hungary prolonging the ratification process.

He added that Sweden’s decision to join the alliance was very good news for Poland, as “it gives us a sense of greater security, greater solidarity.”

Tusk added, “Cooperation between us in NATO is something very promising as well.”

“I hope that your saga will soon reach its conclusion,” he said.

The Swedish authorities are currently working on their country’s accession to NATO. Sweden’s admission to NATO has already been ratified by all the allies in the military bloc, with the exception of Hungary.
